About SkyWatch
A free reference for when the sky does things, built for New Zealand rather than adapted from the northern hemisphere.
Computed from standard astronomical algorithms · Reviewed Oct 2026 · Method
SkyWatch computes sun and moon times for 192 New Zealand places, along with moon phases and the meteor showers that are actually visible from here. It is free, carries no tracking beyond basic analytics, and states its accuracy on the methodology page.
It exists because the alternatives are mostly northern-hemisphere sites with a New Zealand city dropped into a template — which is how you end up with pages promising Aucklanders a hundred Perseids an hour in August, a shower whose radiant never rises from New Zealand at all.
It is one of a set of New Zealand data projects by Amit Sharma, alongside NZ Tide Times, Sideline and NZ School Finder.
